Russians are taking longer to find work

The majority of Russians who find themselves without work as a result of the crisis have to spend longer looking for new work today than they did in the Autumn. So, if last Autumn a quarter (27%) of those who lost their job could find a new job within a few days, then this Spring the number with such luck has halved (14%)...

In the week of April 20-26, 2009 SCIF index ‘household consumption of the average town dweller’ made up 93,7 % (-6,3 %) as compared to the previous week. Last week the expenditures of Russians – citizens of large towns manifested an appreciable general decline. The tendency showed itself most clearly in Moscow. Here, the household consumption expenditures decreased by 11,2% as compared to the previous week...

SCIF index ‘household consumption of the average town dweller’ - an index of everyday consumption of consumer goods - was 98.5% (-1.5%) in relation to the previous week. Thus, expenditure on everyday household consumption has stabilized and since the middle of March has had practically no growth. It seems that households in cities have adapted their expenditure levels and their shopping basket to the crisis times.

SCIF index “household consumption of the average town dweller“ – an index of the changes in a household’s outgoings on everyday household consumption – was 113.1% (+13.1%) compared to February 2009 and 122.3% (+22.3%) compared to March 2008. The analogous indicators for the previous month were: 99.1% (-0.9%) and 132.3 (+32.3%)...

In the week 23-29th of March 2009 the following changes took place in households’ spending on everyday consumption in large towns in Russia. SCIF index ‘household consumption of the average town dweller’ - an index of everyday consumption of consumer goods - was 103.7% (+3.7%) in relation to the previous week (from 16 to 22 March 2009) and 120.9% (+20.9%) in relation to the analogous week in 2008 (from 24 to 30 March 2008). Expenditure of inhabitants of big cities in Russia has risen slightly overall since last week. The rise in outgoings has been noted in all types of town from the capital to regional centers...
